New Graduate Student Scholarship

June 13, 2018

Dear Alumni and Friends of the EconomicsDepartment,

Shu Wu, Professor of Economics and former Associate Chair,  Department of Economics, passed away recently after a long battle with cancer. Dr. Wu joined the University of Kansas as an Assistant Professor and Charles W. Oswald Faculty Scholar in 2000, after receiving his  Ph.D. in Economics from Stanford University. During his 18 years of service at University of Kansas, Dr. Wu not only became a world class expert in Macroeconomics, Econometrics and Financial Economics, but also a great teacher loved by his students. He has taught numerous graduate and undergraduate courses and advised many Ph.D. and Master students.

Shu Wu has dedicated his life to macroeconomics and to helping his students succeed and his influence was felt in  the  Economics Department, at KU and around the country. He is remembered as  a deeply compassionate and loyal man, profoundly interested in the development of others before himself and as a very intellectual, yet  humble person. Prof. Wu was not only a renowned macroeconomist, but also genuine and caring as his student’s teacher, who always lifted his students up and touched their hearts with his beautiful mind and soul.

To honor his legacy, KU Economics is seeking support to establish a graduate scholarship in memory of Shu Wu. Such funds will  help  advance graduate students research as well as travel to conferences to present it. This will aid in educating and placing future macroeconomists for years to come. Gifts of any size will move us closer to that goal.

Thank you for your consideration and support.

Sincerely,

Milena Stanislavova

Interim Chair, Economics Department
